The impacts of greenhouse gases significantly affect environmental and climatic changes, particularly the atmosphere. Vietnamese legislation has introduced various policies and regulations on greenhouse gas inventory in order to limit the environmental impacts of carbon emissions. In accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP, facilities included in the list of sectors and greenhouse gas emission facilities subject to greenhouse gas inventory, as promulgated by the Prime Minister, are required to provide activity data and relevant information to support the greenhouse gas inventory of the facility for the year preceding the reporting period, in accordance with the guidance of the sectoral management ministry, before 31 March each year starting from 2023.

Compliance with regulations and preparation for greenhouse gas inventory
The Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, in coordination with STI Vietnam Company Limited, organized a training course entitled “General awareness of greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018” for enterprises located in Da Nang City.

The training course was attended by representatives of the leadership of the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, along with representatives from 100 production and service facilities in the city, who participated in learning, research, and discussion activities.

With the objective of raising awareness and equipping enterprises with the necessary knowledge to participate in greenhouse gas inventory and emission reduction activities, greenhouse gas inventory report validation, and disclosure in accordance with regulations, STI Vietnam experts designed a training program specifically for enterprises, including the following contents:

  • Overview of greenhouse gases and greenhouse gas inventory;
  • Updates on domestic and international requirements related to greenhouse gas inventory;
  • Greenhouse gas emissions and related standards;
  • Greenhouse gas inventory: determination of the inventory scope, principles, and selected greenhouse gas calculation methods; collection of activity data and calculation of greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Greenhouse gas inventory reporting and validation and verification of greenhouse gas inventory reports.

In addition, the expert team from STI Vietnam provided guidance for participating enterprises on practical greenhouse gas calculations through specific case examples, as well as on the preparation of supporting documents demonstrating the quantities of major fuels used.

Through this workshop, enterprises in Da Nang City gained an understanding of the legal and technical requirements for greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018, prepared for greenhouse gas inventory activities, and identified solutions for greenhouse gas emission reduction in compliance with the provisions of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP, thereby supporting enterprise development in line with a sustainable roadmap.
